Fortnite Playable on iOS After Four Month Long Beta For Nvidia Geforce

It’s finally back! After getting pulled off the Apple App Store for implementing its in-app payment system and losing large amount of its player base, Fortnite is finally ready to play for all iOS users through GeForce through the Safari web browser on iOS. This comes after the surprising announcement of Fortnite coming to Xbox Cloud Gaming on May 5th, 2022. With Fortnite being on Xbox Cloud Gaming, this allowed access for anyone with a Microsoft account. Microsoft had been a company that Epic had stepped away from, but since its feud with Apple, the gaming company have been looking for ways to get Fortnite available of mobile devices.

According to The Verge, Epic Games were in talks with Nvidia, all the way back in 2020, proposing to use GeForce Now, a cloud gaming service that had already been running a version of the game for android, due to Xbox Cloud Gaming, as well as PC users. However, the process with this new iOS version proved to be an arduous one.

A closed beta opened in January allowing select players to test out the game, with a reported 500,000 participants streaming over 4 million sessions to hundreds of mobile devices. The Nvidia developers were happy with the large turnout, the experience providing them with great results.

According to Nvidia in a blog post on Thursday, May 19, after months of testing, the iOS version optimized on-screen touch controls and game menus, giving players gameplay that feels smooth and intuitive. iOS users have the most to gain from this version of Fortnite. Nvidia thanked its beta participants, commemorating their efforts with a three-day Priority membership to GeForce NOW:

As a thank you to members who helped improve Fortnite mobile touch controls during the closed beta period, participants can redeem a three-day Priority membership to GeForce NOW. Priority members get higher performance, access to premium servers, and extended six-hour session lengths, for an upgraded gaming experience. Members redeem the free promotional membership — or extension of their existing Founders, Priority, or RTX 3080 membership — by logging into the redemption portal and following the instructions to activate. Beta participants will also receive an email in the coming days with additional details.

Fortnite is a game that is enjoyed by many for its fast-paced and addictive gameplay. With its return to iOS with the help of GeForce NOW, Fortnite has proven to be one of the most accessible games cross-platform.
