The holiday event for Fortnite has just gone live for all users. The holiday fun will affect both Battle Royale and Save the World, with lots of items and weapons to nab along the way.
First and foremost, Patch V.1.11 will introduce the Battle Pass, an interactive way to unlock cosmetic loot, akin to the Dota 2 Battle Passes. For season 2 of Battle Royale, players can level up the battle pass for free to unlock a handful of items. Users who want to plunk down a few dollars, however, will instantly unlock some items, as well as unlock the ability to collect premium items. Players unlock items from battle pass levels, and leveling up the battle pass is as easy as playing the game. Unlocking all items should take anywhere from 75 hour to 150 hours of gameplay, depending on performance, and users can also purchase battle pass levels to speed up the process.
The event store is also live, featuring festive cosmetics for players to purchase with in-game currency. Users can collect seasonal gold to use in the event store by completing any mission. In addition, players can also access their inventory from the menus, subverting the need to load into a mission to check an inventory. There is also a small tease for an upcoming crafting system for Save the World mode.
Battle Royale has made a few new changes, with the first being a festive change, re-skinning the grenade launcher to fire snowballs, the battle bus to look more festive, and amenities in the play area for players to find. New daily quests have been added to reward the top 50 solo players, or top 12 surviving squads. A few other quests have also been re-balanced for players, and general bug fixes and small quality-of-life changes and animations have also been added to the mode.
The main holiday event, The Fortnite Guide to Holiday Survival, has players ridding the world of husks in a festive fashion. Players can participate in the event to earn tickets, and cash in to get holiday survival llamas, which can unlock special winter-themed weapons for players to use in Save the World. New heroes are also available specially for the event, and they are of course holiday themed. Sarah Claus is an alchemist that regenerates health through melee and can wear down enemies, Blitzen BASE Kyle is a warden that heals himself through melee and can heal allies in an AoE with his BASE, Snow Stalker Jonesy is a demolisher that uses explosives to clear crowds of enemies, and Fragment Flurry Jess is a reclaimer with an energy beam equipped TEDDY that charges upon defeating enemies in combat. There are also a few secret activities for players to find and participate in scattered throughout the world.
All this, and more, can be viewed in greater detail on the Fortnite event page. The event, and season 2 of Battle Royale, start today, December 14th, and run until February 20th.
