Fortnite Chapter 2 has been out for almost a week now, and players are having a grand old time enjoying the new features and brand new map. The new gameplay and map let players utilize the aquatic areas of the arena with swimming, fishing, motorboats, and more. One of the new features, however, has been discovered to have rather unintended consequences of use.
In a fresh take to the game, players are now able to utilize the world around them to cause maximum chaos or simply escape it for a while. According to the Chapter 2 breakdown on the game’s website, players can “hide in haystacks and dumpsters to get the drop on your opponent or go in blazing by blowing up gas tanks and explosive barrels.” One Reddit user named Bigdog-475 warns of the dangers of dumpster diving.
As you can see in the video above, a glitch can sometimes cause a player to be launched high into the sky upon exiting a dumpster, or as Bigdog-475 calls it, the dumpster “turned me into a dementor.” From the looks of it, the glitch triggers when two players, who are in a dumpster at the same time, try to exit simultaneously. The glitch did not seem to trigger upon exit when the player was in the dumpster alone. When triggered, the player is sent soaring into the sky, and their character seems to disappear for a brief moment, leaving only a trail of smoke visible. The glitch has some good news and bad news. The good news is, eventually, you will come back to Earth. The bad news is the impact of hitting the ground seems to instantly down a player.
An Epic Community Coordinator named FreightTrainUSA commented on the post. “Thanks for the report, sending this over to get looked at!” While there is no fix as of yet, Epic has been made aware of the glitch and is hopefully working on a fix before too many more players get launched into the stratosphere. For now, players are advised to tread carefully inside dumpsters, and maybe seek out a haystack to hide in instead until the glitch is patched out.
