It’s New Years Eve and there are plenty of developers and games showing their own version of “auld lang syne” through promotional images, tweets, and all the likes. Some developers have holiday-themed events that last through the month, and Fortnite: Battle Royale is no stranger to such joyous festivities.
Sneakily added into the game, the developers brought an hourly event for New Year’s Eve. A countdown begins and music begins to play, then on every hour, on the hour, when the countdown and music is over, the sky lights up with a barrage of fireworks and all players are forced to Boogie Down for ten seconds. It matters not where there characters were or what they were doing, every character stops and begins to dance while the celebration happens. The ten seconds ends with a giant llama firework and a “2019” underneath. Though this event did take a few players by surprise:
A NEW YEARS EVENT ALREADY?

The reason that the event takes place every hour is to accommodate for all the timezones across the globe. The event is currently live for each hour, and will most likely end when the clock strikes 3AM PST, to end with the last timezone midnight.
But these holiday fireworks aren’t the only explosive things in Fortnite.
In a recent patch, a new item was added. This item is a Boombox, and it seems to be the item that was quickly labeled as overpowered by players. Found in chests, this Boombox can be placed on the ground and at each soundwave it creates knocks down a newly built structure that’s nearby. It’s easy to stop, but players need to take out all 600 health it has.
This could be a make-or-break item for 1v1 fights, but players seem to go straight to the overpowered claim.
Community: hates planes and turrets and wants them removed
Fortnite: adds a boombox that can take down an entire building.
What’s next Epic? A tank?
I’m uninstalling

this new boombox makes me question how fortnite isn’t dead yet🤔…

No comment has been made by Epic on whether or not the Boombox will go through any changes for balance.
But depending on which one is better, fireworks or Boombox, there’s something explosive waiting in Fortnite: Battle Royale for the rest of the year.
