Fortnite Announces Upcoming Crossover With Dragon Ball

Fortnite has become one of the few games where the wildest crossover ideas shine, and its latest might be the most exciting yet. In a tweet on August 11, 20222, the official Fortnite Twitter page announced the video game’s latest crossover with the worldwide phenomenon Dragon Ball.

The tweet shows the glowing body of Shenron, a wish-granting dragon, and guardian of the dragon balls from the titular Dragon Ball series. The dragon floats above a mystical landscape with the words “Speak. Name your wish.” above the image. The announcement set fans in a frenzy of excitement, confusion, and speculation, since other than the initial tweet, nothing more is known about the upcoming crossover. Fans won’t have to wait long for more information, with the announcement confirming a set date of August 16. The short wait leaves enough time for fans to speculate.

On the outside, Dragon Ball seems like an odd choice for a shooter like Fortnite. However, the same could be said for Fortnite’s previous crossover with Naruto. While the prospect of Goku running around the field with a gun against the likes of Batman and Rick & Morty is a hilarious image, it’s a given that the event should be something more than just that. The Dragon Ball franchise is a behemoth filled with a wide variety of characters and locations to choose from, fans wouldn’t be satisfied with only one character making it in. Previously, there had been rumors and leaks about the upcoming crossover. It was speculated that the event would have four different skins, but nothing has been confirmed.

Fortnite has truly cemented itself as a platform for some of video games’ greatest crossovers. While the exact details of the crossover are still up in the air, it is still phenomenal that the developers had the opportunity to have such an influential series in their game.

Caitlyn Taylor: New media and entertainment have been apart of my life since I was very young, and I don't think that interest will ever go away. When I'm bored, I immerse myself in lore videos no matter the length.
