Fortnite Announces Metallica Collaboration Coming June 13

Epic Games announced today that they’re teaming up with iconic metal band Metallica to bring a collection of new content to Fortnite. The collaboration will cover multiple games in the Fortnite ecosystem, as well as bringing a new music experience to the Discover page. The new experience can be found starting June 22, and the new Metallica season of Fortnite Festival is releasing on June 13 along with several other pieces of content.

In Fortnite Festival, a new season pass featuring Metallica-themed cosmetics is arriving, featuring skins of al four members of Metallica (Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo) available to unlock in the Premium Reward Track. The new season will also come with the permanent addition of the new PvP mode Battle Stage, a “musical free-for-all” where 16 players enter, but only one can win.

There will also be new Metallica Quests in both Battle Royale and Fortnite Festival, which will allow players to earn new cosmetic items inspired by Metallica. Fortnite Festival’s Metallica Quests will give players the chance to unlock James’s ESP Snakebyte Guitar, as well as Robert’s Warwick M72 Bass. Battle Royale’s Metallica Quests will let you unlock an Emote and a new Loading Screen, but the collaboration’s crossover into Battle Royale doesn’t stop there.

Battle Royale will also be adding a new Metallica item and location to the Island. Ride the Lightning guitars can be found in chests or on the ground, and can be used to “create a lighting arc in the sky that your squadmates can ride”, as well as come crashing down on an enemy on the descent. There will also be a rift that opens in the middle of every match, revealing the Metallica Loot Island floating in the sky. A holographic Metallica concert plays on this island, where you can find new loot and a POI. There will also be a new Squads Fill Cup, called the Battle Royale Metallica Cup, on June 18 that gives players a chance to earn the new Ringer emote before it arrives in the shop.

Rocket Racing is also joining in on the Metallica festivities, bringing its own Metallica Quests, cosmetics, and even a new track. The new track is called Thrash Mountain, a volcanic landscape where Metallica’s Fuel plays in the background as you race by rock-themed set pieces. The new Backfire Car Body, along with the Puppetmaster Backfire Decal and the Chasing Light Wheels, are unlockable new cosmetics for your ride that can be earned by completing Metallica Quests. There will also be a new car bundle, the Metallic Jäger 619 Bundle, available for purchase in the Shop until June 26.

A second variant of all the band members, called the Puppet Master variants, will be available for purchase in the store. LEGO Fortnite will feature LEGO minifigure versions of both the default and Puppet Master Metallica skins. And, of course, 7 new Metallica tracks will be added to Fortnite, including the Jam Track “One” which is unlockable via the Festival Pass’ Premium Reward Track. The new Metallica content will be arriving tomorrow, and you can find more details on the release on Epic’s official news post here.
