It looks like we’ll have to wait just a bit longer to get out hands on Forspoken. Square Enix and developer Luminous Productions have once again officially delayed the title, this time until January 24, 2023. This pushes it back from the second date it was given by a few months, and several months back from the initial given date. According to a tweet, in which the delay was made official, the reasoning for this was due to a “strategic decision” that was made with all of the “key partners.”

According to the post, the game is essentially complete, and the remaining time will be used for “final polishing.” The post also mentions that there will be more information coming sometime later this Summer. Considering that we’re approaching the halfway point of July, there’s only so much time left in the Summer season, which more than likely means that Square Enix will be revealing that tidbit of information for us very soon. As for the delay, the necessary time needed for polishing the final product is nothing new in the development process. If anything, this is generally more of a welcome aspect in today’s industry, as rushed titles in the past have been less than favorably reviewed.
As we already mentioned, this is the second time that Forspeoken has been delayed. The initial date, which was May 24, 2022, was pushed to October 2022, which is now January 24, 2023. The game was initially revealed as Project Athia, before being rebranded as Forspoken during the Square Enix Presents Spring 2021 presentation. Luminious Productions gave us another glimpse just before The Game Awards 2021 where it was given the initial launch date, and since then the anticipation for the title has been slowly building.
Thankfully, we won’t have to wait too much longer for Forspoken to be released, and if the Twitter post is any indication, the core game is already completes and all that remains is the polish. Forspoken will officially launch on January 23, 2023, for the PlayStation 5 and PC.
