Season Three of For Honor, titled “Grudge and Glory” begins tomorrow, and will bring all the fixings we saw in the release of Season Two, and more. That includes: two new heroes, two new maps, new gear customization options and a new max gear level, a new season of the Faction War, and a number of gameplay balance changes, plus the introduction of ranked matchmaking.
The highlights of the Season Three reveal so far are the two new heroes: The Highlander, aka the “Grudge”, and the Gladiator, responsible for the “Glory” half of things.
The Highlander will belong to the Vikings faction, and is classified as a Hybrid character. He is big and tanky, and swings around a giant claymore, the biggest sword in the game. The Highlander is unique in his ability to switch between an offensive and defensive stance, the first character in the game to possess this mechanic. While in defensive form, he plays more like most other characters in the game, blocking and parrying enemy strikes to respond with counter-attacks, but while in offensive stance, he loses the ability to block entirely in favor of enabling very powerful aggressive swings and strikes.
The Gladiator fights for the Knights, and is an Assassin type, meaning he will have speed, mobility, dodge attacks, and deflects. He wears very-minimal (nipple-exposing) armor, and wields a flashy trident and small shield. As a brawler trained for combat in the ring, the Gladiator is nimble and strong, with a large stamina pool and multiple punch abilities to keep opponents exhausted and dazed.
This new season of For Honor will also see two new maps, with newly introduced environmental hazards. The Viking Village map will contain a massive spiked barrel that can be rolled through the map to crush players, while the Knight Sentinel map will have mounted Ballistae that players can mount to shoot at their opponents.
In For Honor customization, new “Legendary” gear will replace “Epic” gear as the new highest-rated gear, bringing the maximum possible total gear score up from 144 to 180. New gameplay tweaks and balance changes, as well as the ranked and duel tournament modes, will be coming soon.
For Honor Season Three goes live in-game tomorrow, August 15th. All new content is available to all players immediately, except for the new heroes, which are exclusively accessible to Season Pass holders for one week, before becoming available to everyone starting August 23rd.
