Today, publisher Square Enix has announced that its upcoming online multiplayer shooter, FOAMSTARS is set to launch next month on February 6. Square Enix also revealed that the game will be part of next month’s PlayStation Plus lineup and will be available for all PlayStation Plus members to download and keep at no extra cost from February 6 through March 4.
FOAMSTARS is a new 4v4 shooting game where players can enjoy a combination of a party-like atmosphere where mysterious foam builds around players and intense moments during battle.
“We developed FOAMSTARS with the concept of creating a game that everyone could enjoy,” Kosuke Okatani, Producer, Square Enix said. “Whether you’re a player who wants to play tactically and test your skills to achieve victory, or a player who wants to just casually party with friends, you will find something to enjoy in FOAMSTARS. Please try it out during its inclusion in the PlayStation Plus Monthly Games.”
FOAMSTARS will launch with three game modes: Smash The Star, Happy Bath Survival, and Rubber Duck Party.
In Smash The Star, players win by taking down the opposition’s designated Star Player which happens after defeating 7 players from the opposing team. One of the remaining players will get several buffs and will be appointed the Star Player. Happy Bath Survival features split teams with one half inside an arena and half outside for each round. Teams are competing to take down the opposing team’s players inside the arena first. Outside players will be able to assist their teammates with defensive foam, while inside players fight in close quarters for victory. Rubber Duck Party has teams racing to the center stage and fighting for possession of the rubber duck. Climbing aboard the duck advances it into the opposition’s goal while dancing on the duck’s head will make it sprint towards the finish line to win the match.
Players can also play FOAMSTARS solo or with friends in Mission Mode where players will protect Bath Vegas from an onslaught of Bubble Beasties.
Rewards can be acquired by completing challenges. There are three types – Anytime, Events, and Weekly. Each will come with varying rewards.
FOAMSTARS will also receive seasonal updates over the span of one year with a Season Pass being available for each season, offering a plethora of bonus items. Players can increase their tier by earning XP from battling or completing missions. Rewards will be unlocked as a player’s tier increases.
Mel T will be unlockable as a reward in the first Season Pass which will be available at launch. Players who purchase the Premium Pass will unlock the character immediately. Additional characters, maps, and modes will be released throughout the year on top of seasonal exclusive content and skins.
