First In-Engine Look of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Drops at Xbox Partner Showcase

The long anticipated in-engine trailer for Konami’s Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater dropped yesterday at Xbox’s partner showcase. Unlike 2015’s Metal Gear Solid V and 2018’s Survive, Delta will be developed using the Unreal Engine 5 rather than the Fox Engine. Still, the series’ beauty remains intact.

The trailer might only be a little over a minute and a half, but it’s revealed much more of Delta than the original trailer fans got during its announcement release, which consisted of a very nice swamp, a bird and Naked Snake’s face for a mere ten seconds. Now, players are able to see Naked Snake’s movement and environment in all their Unreal Engine 5 glory.

The trailer opens with Naked Snake slogging through a muddy river with an alligator watching. The next scene shows him after exiting the murky water, dripping mud as he crouches and walks along, something the original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater refused to let him do. Next, viewers are treated to some action and stealth gameplay with Naked Snake as he sneaks in tall grass and points his pistol at an enemy. He is next shown making his way across the edge of a cliff, and finally grabs a man from behind to subdue him. The trailer closes with many shots of the impressive wildlife.

Not much is set in stone for the remake of the classic Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, which was originally released in 2004 for the PlayStation 2, including its specific release date. Still, fans are excited to see Konami’s big return to the franchise after creator Hideo Kojima’s departure from the company in 2015. The fate of the stealth series was left unknown for some time as Konami focused on mobile games, but is certainly back as the trailer confirms.

Most recently, Konami released Metal Gear Solid Master Collection: Volume 1 on October 24, 2023. The volume is similar to their release of Castlevania Advance Collection, which saw the port of three Castlevania Game Boy Advance games to Steam. Their Metal Gear volume features the ports of the first three mainline entries in the series.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is set to launch on Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S sometime in the future. For more information, check out the official website.
