The big thing that is coming is now players will have the ability to store PlayStation 5 games on compatible external USB drives. With this, you can transfer your ps5 games from the console’s internal storage. When you’re ready to play them, they can be easily copied and transferred back to the console’s internal storage. It’s faster than reinstalling them from USB extended storage than to redownload or copy them from a disc.
PlayStation 5 games can’t be played from USB extended storage because they were designed to take advantage of the console’s ultra-high-speed SSD. They also cannot be directly downloaded to the USB extended storage. You will be able to choose which mode you want to install i.e. campaign or multiplayer if the game supports the option. When you transfer or copy games back to the internal storage, the game will automatically update when applicable. It was previously revealed that PlayStation 5 will support storage expansion via M.2 drives. The feature is being worked and updates will be shared in the future.
PS4 and PS5 players will now be able to Share Play together while chatting in parties. PlayStation 5 users can let their friends playing on PS4 view their game screen and they can even let them try their PS5 games and vice versa. With Share Play, you can share your screen with a friend, pass the controller virtually to a friend, or pass a second controller virtually to play co-op games together. Joinable game sessions will now appear on both PS4 and PS5 consoles allowing for more gameplay opportunities. This also serves as a shortcut for sending an invite reducing the time to get into the game and play with your friends.
Other features and options coming with the update include an improved game base for quicker access to important content and features. It will be easier to switch between Parties and Friends, start chatting with your existing parties or see what your friends are up to. Notifications can now be turned on or off for each of the parties you are in. You’ll be able to quickly disable in-game chat, which turns off your mic audio and the voice audio of other players. You’ll also be able to adjust the individual voice chat volume of other players in the same chat. Title updates for games will pre-download to your console if the “automatic updates” setting is enabled and the console is on or in rest mode. This will make it easier to play the latest version of a game after the release of an update. You’ll be able to search your library or hide games from view. The magnification of the screen can be adjusted to suit your preference. New Trophy settings include the ability to customize how or what trophies you see when they unlock. You can set it to only happen when you earn a higher-grade trophy like Gold or Platinum. A new player Trophy Stats screen lets players see a summary of their trophy level and status at a glance.
New features coming to the PlayStation App include the ability to join a multiplayer session on PS5 from the app, manage your PS5 console storage, compare trophy collections with friends, and sort and filter products shown in the PlayStation Store.
