Over the past decade, Fire Emblem has become one of Nintendo’s most popular game series. While multiple incredibly successful games have been released on each new console for the company, including a new game scheduled for the Switch 2, older games in the series have been incredibly difficult to access in the past. Whether it be due to localization issues, poor sales numbers, or low priority, fans of the series would need to pay prices far above the initial costs of the game in order to own them in the modern day, with no game exemplifying this phenomenon more than Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. Now it seems that Nintendo will finally give newer fans an easy way to play the title through their Nintendo Classics system.
Known to most gamers due to his appearance in the Super Smash Bros series, Ike began his journey in the world of Tellius from the GameCube. The trailer that Nintendo put out offers additional information about the game. Ike must work alongside the half-human Laguz to dethrone the mad king Ashnard in a story that would create many staples for the series going forward. Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance is also the first game in the series to use 3D models and custscenes, features that would be present in the more successful modern installments.
The Nintendo Classics feature of the Switch and Switch 2 has created access to some of the rarest games Nintendo has ever released. In the case of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, the original game for the GameCube could cost around $300, making it very difficult to play the game that many veterans of the series claimed was among the best it had to offer. Now the door is open to both old and new players to relive Ike’s adventure. The game is available now for those with the expansion pack for Nintendo Online.
