Ever since the final installment was released for the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster set, Square Enix has been seeing a renewed interest in the original six Final Fantasy titles, especially with the updated visuals and remastered orchestral score. Each title is revered and beloved within the Final Fantasy community, and this also includes the developers at Square Enix. At a recent FanFest event, Final Fantasy XIV Director Naoki Yoshida revealed that at some point in the past year, he and the development team attempted to get the Pixel Remaster titles playable within the MMORPG itself.
If you’ve ever wanted to see older #FinalFantasy games as playable #FINALFANTASYXIV Gold Saucer events, then you’ll be delighted to hear that Yoshi-P has, too. 👾

This application would also circumvent the requirement of having to download them all separately. The only needed software would be Final Fantasy XIV, and according to Yoshida, would visit the Golden Saucer and be able to play them from there. While that sounded like a dream come true, it, unfortunately, stayed just that, a dream. Yoshida explained that the entire setup became a bit too complicated, and they eventually dropped the idea. So because it’s running on middleware, if you want to implement that into 14, you’d have to build another system that can play back the middleware inside the game,” Yoshida said. “So it’s like you’re building a system of a game to play a system of a game. It’s just this weird configuration.”
Yoshida also added that it would probably take a “super programmer” to get it working, which means that the idea is more than likely not a high priority for the developers at this time. If anything, their main focus is working on the upcoming expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, Dawntrail, which was announced during that same FanFest. Still, should a supposed developer find a way to incorporate the Pixel Remasters into the MMORPG, Yoshida and company would more than likely bring them in and give them a chance to try it.
