Today is the 23rd anniversary of Final Fantasy VII and with the remake releasing in a few months Square Enix has released a new theme song trailer. The theme song trailer shows off the new theme song Hollow, with music by Nobuo Uematsu, vocals by Yosh (Surivive Said The Prophet) and lyrics by Kazushige Nojima as well as confirmsing several returning elements of the game and hinting at some possible changes to the Midgar section.
The trailer includes Cloud’s makeover and crossdressing sequence at the Honey Bee Inn with vivid never-before-seen detail. Players also get to see a piece of the bike chase battle sequence as well as the party traversing the ridiculously long Shinra HQ Staircase. The trailer also shows players the party member Red XIII, Reeve Tuesti, the villanous Professor Hojo, and Scarlet using a human footstool.
The new trailer also hints at several changes in the original Midgar section of the story as can be seen from the battles and meetings with Jenova, and the scene with Sephiroth. Back in June, 2019 Final Fantasy VII Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase in his interview with gameinformer stated that “The first game in this project expands on the story of Midgar, and is such an elaborate retelling that it has become a solid standalone game in its own right,.” The Leviathan summoning also looks a little out of place considering it only appeared in Disc 2 of the original game. Another scene that looks out of place is Cloud using what appears to be the Mithril Sword, which is normally only available after the Midgar section. It is possible that these could be a part of the expansion of the story of Midgar, however, none of this can be confirmed.
Final Fantasy VII Remake was originally going to release on March 3rd 2020, however the game has been delayed until April 10th, 2020.
