Earlier today, a new video containing the Final Fantasy VII Remake release date for the Xbox One was released. The release date that was shown was the same as the recently announced date of March 3, 2020, for the PlayStation 4. What makes this interesting is that the remake was only announced for the PS4 right now. Microsoft later confirmed that the release of the video was a mistake. The video has since been taken down. Xbox Germany’s Communications and Social Media Lead Maxi Graff responded to a tweet about the video saying it was an “internal mistake”:
Final Fantasy VII Remake was on everyone’s mind when it was shown off at E3 2019 with a presentation going over how the combat works in the game. The presentation also saw the release of new trailer showcasing even more characters and the release date that no one was expecting to be of March 3, 2020. Before the start of E3, there was also a leaked listing of the game for Xbox One.
The combat for Final Fantasy VII Remake is rather unique in that it includes both active and turn-based elements when it comes to dealing with enemies. You can trigger basic attacks in real-time but are able to get more tactical when you build up a meter where the gameplay pauses and players are able to make more strategic choices.
All we know about the game is that it is set to come out on the PlayStation 4. Whether or not the game comes out for other platforms remains to be seen. The leaked listing and the news of the video seems like its going to happen but how long from the inital release date to when the game is available on any other platform is unknown. There have been games that have released on one platform and have taken a year to get released on another so it could be similar to that regard, but only time will tell.
