Final Fantasy VII Hits Mobile With A Few Changes

In an effort to bring younger gamers and those new to the Final Fantasy series up to speed for the upcoming release of the remastered Final Fantasy VII, developer Square Enix has created an iOS port of the original game.

Back when it was originally released, Final Fantasy VII was a game changer, as it was the first attempt to translate the tried and true 2D RPG genre to the then-new 3D possibility space. Not only did it make the leap in an aesthetically acceptable way, but it brought with it the epic-scale storytelling that the series is known for.

Porting the game to mobile from its home on consoles required a few changes, however. Firstly, players will have the option to use digital versions of either a directional pad or an analog stick to move within the game. More importantly, a new option has been added to the iOS version to turn on or off the random battle encounters that normally occur when traversing the game’s overworld. This change is intended to let players focus on the (at times) complex story being told behind the gameplay. Final Fantasy and RPG players alike are likely asking how players are expected to keep their party-members strong enough to take on the challenges presented by the game’s bosses and various monsters, but the final change introduced is the option to toggle max-level on and off at will, in order for players to truly focus on the narrative presented.

Interested iOS owners can find the game in the itunes app store for $15.99.
