Hope all our readers had a great Christmas leading into the New Year. It’s been a pretty tumultuous year for video game releases, with a bit of good and quite a bit of bad, but let’s end the year with a release we all know will be good, a rerelease of one of the greatest fighting games of all time, Bandai Namco’s Tekken 3. Thanks to the efforts of the modding community, Tekken 3 is now playable online, now with rollback.
For those of you who don’t really vibe with Tekken 8 (and there are quite a few of you if the online reception to that game is any indication), Tekken 3 is a return to Tekken’s roots. No Street Fighter or SNK meter combos, no Heat System, just you and the other guy standing in a gorgeously rendered Playstation 1 3D arena duking it out or playing volleyball if that’s more your thing.
Of course, this being a mod you will have to download the game and modify it yourself. Luckily the creators of this have created an easy guide to get started and it’s all extremely simple.
It’s always nice when these classic fighting games are brought back into the limelight. As stated, Tekken 8 didn’t live up to the potential many saw in it, and even Tekken 7 arguably didn’t really click with a lot of the fans of the older Tekken games. So Tekken 3, a game everyone in the community agrees that they love, now being playable for the members of the community who want to play it is a great thing.
Of course, every classic game suffers from not being the “new hotness”, so you won’t find many random people. But with a small dedicated community and the ease of which you can simply let your friends also download the game and play some Tekken with you, this shouldn’t be a problem.
