After nearly a year since it was initially teased, SNK has finally lifted the curtain on the long-awaited sequel to Garou: Mark of the Wolves. The studio officially revealed the game at EVO 2023, and its name is Fatal Fury: City of Wolves, making it a fully-fledged continuation of the long-running fighting franchise. SNK also revealed a teaser trailer, which gave us a tiny sampling of how the game looks and plays. The long 20-plus-year wait for another Fatal Fury entry has come to an end, it’s finally here.
SNK formally made the announcement after the finale of the top 6 for The King of Fighters 15, which was one of the marquee titles featured at EVO 2023. The trailer itself is rather brief and starts off by showing multiple locations on a map of the now iconic South Town. We also hear various fighters from the Fatal Fury series yelling out their signature moves as the map zooms in on random locations. We then see some select shots/gameplay of longtime stalwarts Rock Howard and Terry Bogard posing and showing some moves before the title is revealed.
SNK did not provide any sort of release date or any release time frame, but judging from how the trailer looked, the project seems to progressing along very well. If we had to guess, it’s possible that we’ll have a timeframe in the very near future, but as for the actual concrete date, that’s anyone’s guess at this point. Still, seeing Terry and Rock in a brand new Fatal Fury trailer in 2023 is something that fighting game fans have long considered a pipe dream, and now that dream has become a reality. At the very least, we know that SNK is taking this IP very seriously, as they previously stated that it will be a “big release.”
