It’s live! SNK’s next big fighting game Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves has been talk of the town in the fighting game community, but now it’s time for the game to speak for itself. As of right now, the live open beta for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is available on Steam for free. It’s only 16gb big so if you’ve ever been curious about trying out this long running highly acclaimed fighting game franchise, or if you’re burned out (no pun intended) on Street Fighter 6 or Mortal Kombat 1 then go ahead and download it from Steam here.
There are a few characters available for the open beta, including: SNK mainstays Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui, Mark of the Wolves protagonist Rock Howard, newcomers Vox Reaper and Preecha, the ever popular B. Jenet and Hotaru Futaba, and the recently announced Mark of the Wolves final boss Kain Heinlein. There are a good variety of playstyles available to test out here from more basic and simple to understand shotos to more complex zoners, so you’ll get a good feel for how the game plays.
Interestingly, the Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves open beta does not include a single player training mode or offline versus mode. The reasoning for this is probably as fighting game veteran Justin Wong posits: those modes in open betas tend to lead to labwork within insular training communities, and thus once the game is released newcomers will quickly find themselves overwhelmed by people who have had months of uninterrupted practice, so this can only be a good thing.
So again, if you’re interested in getting a fresh start on Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, go ahead and download the open beta on Steam, and watch out for the game’s full release come April 24th, 2025.
