Looks like Koei Tecmo is bringing back an all-time classic horror franchise, Fatal Frame. The series is finally making its way to the current console generation, as well as PC with Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, a re-release of the most recent entry for the series which originally launched in 2014 for the Nintendo Wii U. The title will be coming to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC as a digital-only title. Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black will officially launch on October 28, just in time for Halloween.

As we already mentioned, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water was originally released on September 27, 2014, for the Wii U. It was given an international release the following year on October 22, 30, and 31 respectively with North American being the former. The game takes place on Hikami Mountain which is filled with supernatural situations alongside multiple river banks. The game features three protagonists, Yuri Kozukata, Ren Hojo, and Miu Hinasaki. Each of them has their own unique part to play in the story, but it all boils down to the most famous mechanic of the franchise, taking pictures of ghosts.
This re-release will obviously have some new bells and whistles as it will be available on the newest generation of systems. The biggest addition besides the updated graphics is the Photo Mode, which in and of itself is ironic. The main feature of the Fatal Frame series is taking pictures of ghosts and dealing them damage, whereas the Photo Mode is made for capturing special cinematic moments to share with the rest of the world. For those who pre-order the title ahead of its release, you’ll receive an additional cosmetic skin of Ryza from the Atelier Ryza franchise. A Digital Deluxe edition of the game will also be available and will include a copy of the game, a digital artbook, and six costumes of previous characters in the series.
