Recently, the author of the Witcher suing CDPR and requesting more royalties has attracted another fantasy novelist’s attention. The author of Mistborn, however, chose to express his attitude uniquely, which is very optimistic given the situation at hand.
Mistborn is still popular among fantasy readers and may be a successful game adaptation in the future. Therefore, the author of the novel, Brandon Sanderson, said that if a good developer such as CDPR is responsible for the game adaptation, it will give Mistborn major recognition.
Regarding Andrzej Sapkowski suing CDPR, Brandon Sanderson posted on Reddit about his endearment to CDPR’s video game adaptations.
“They’ve made by far the best book-to-video game adaptations ever. It’s the sort of thing the rest of us salivate over–if for the simple reason that the entire genre (books, film, and games) benefit from something high-quality on the market like the Witcher games,” he said.
Furthermore, he even considered giving CDPR away the rights to the Mistborn series as he states that “I would seriously consider giving CD Project Red the rights to my books for free because the overall cultural impact that a great story adaptation can have is enormous.”
Although the fame of Brandon Sanderson is not as recognized as the one of Andrzej Sapkowski in the literary industry, the time when Andrzej became famous was the golden era of Western fantasy literature. If the Mistborn series was born in that era, the status might not have been lower than the Witcher series. Brandon was also hand-picked by Robert Jordan’s widow and continued to write the final volume of The Wheel of Time, one of the “Big Three” high fantasy novel series besides Lord of the Ring and A Song of Ice and Fire. It is not to say that he has same strength on writing like the former generation, but it is also great recognition for the author nonetheless.
CDPR Studio has not responded to this; they must be busy developing Cyber Punk 2077 and working on a resolution regarding Andrzej Sapkowski’s suit. Nevertheless, fans of Mistborn are exceedingly excited to ponder the possibilities of their beloved novel getting adapted by an acclaimed studio like CDPR.
