Fans Debate Why There Was No Love Shown For Hogwarts Legacy At The Game Awards

PortKey Games first ever title Hogwarts Legacy received no nominations for the Game Awards this year despite some glowing reviews and becoming the highest selling game of 2023. Both Fans of the IP and people who don’t have much care for it are voicing their disagreement with leaving the wizarding world out of the nominees for this year’s awards. With many pointing out that at the very least it should have been nominated for best score. From an image standpoint it makes sense as to why the game hasn’t been nominated for anything, considering the fact that it was attached to one of the biggest controversies of this year, all having to do with the IP it was based on. It’s very likely that Geoff Keighley and the rest of the Game Awards organizers didn’t want to stir things further and cause another wave of hate in an evening that is meant to be a celebration of the biggest games of the year.

We all know that being the biggest seller doesn’t mean you’ll be getting any awards, I mean look at Call Of Duty a game that makes a billion dollars almost yearly but at the end of the day, a lot of the game is recycled content from previous entries. But, interestingly, there was not even a mention of Hogwarts Legacy in any of the categories, despite having wonderful sound design and an incredible score. It feels as if it was intentionally avoided but on the other hand, Destiny 2 was nominated for best community support so who knows maybe these awards are not exactly well thought out.

Look, I understand the association issues with the IP. Truly. But it’s still a shame that Hogwarts Legacy, developed by several hundred devs who also understand the issues, is going to be completely ignored during awards season despite being one of the best games of the year. pic.twitter.com/z4buzrBdcY

Hogwarts Legacy was doomed from the start sadly as the aforementioned controversy that happened earlier this year came to be purely because of the game’s existence. The Wizarding World IP Is forever stained because of its creator, JK Rowling’s transphobic comments. It is still very disheartening to see that there was so much passion placed into this studio’s first-ever AAA release with so many talented people all to be undermined by a bigoted creator.
