To say that Fallout 76 hasn’t been successful is an understatement. Since launch day, the game has been lambasted by gamers and critics all over the internet, which we went over great deal when it was released. Unfortunately, it wasn’t just gameplay that Bethesda had to worry about, as they found themselves hot water over the Duffel Bag in the Power Armor Edition of the game. In addition, the company has been facing backlash over the potential loot box add on, something that no one wants. On top of that, the company is also looking at class-action lawsuit over players being unable to get refunds for the game.
Faced with a mob of angry and resentful gamers, Bethesda has announced that anyone who has logged into, and played, Fallout 76 since it was released, will receive an “entitlement” for the first three games in the series: Fallout 1, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics, all for free. Despite these games only being released on PC, this giveaway also applies to players on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. These three original Fallout titles were released in the late 1990’s, and at the time were some of the most popular Tactical RPG’s on the market.
While this is a nice gesture on Bethesda’s part to make up for the issues the game has been having, it’s a very small one at best. For starters, these three games were made available to anyone who pre ordered Fallout 76 on the PC, so if you paid for the game ahead of time, then you already have these games. This makes the nice gesture wasted on PC players who pre-ordered it.
Also, while these games were at the forefront of the industry back in the day, they have been superseded in popularity by later titles, such as Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, and Fallout 4. It would make more sense to make those games up for grabs instead of the classics, which are almost always on sale at Steam and GOG.
Still, it seems like Bethesda is at the very least trying to make amends with the community for the past couple of months. The company will start to add more content in 2019 for the game while continuing to fix it. It’s been a very bad launch for Fallout 76, let’s hope that Bethesda can try to save it before it’s too late.
