Back in late 2018, one of the last things on anyone’s mind in the video game industry is “how long will Fallout 76 last in the competitive online gaming market?” The game had just launched after an extensive marketing campaign, and the problems were immediate. It went from a Bethesda dream and quickly turned into a corporate nightmare as more and more issues piled on. Now in 2022, four years after that arduous release, the game is somehow thriving, crawling out of the hole it created and turning in some serious statistics.
As we approach the end of the year, we took a moment to reflect back on #Fallout76 in 2022.

As you can see in that crazy graphic above, Fallout 76 has come a long way. Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of this post is that, according to Bethesda, Fallout 76 has now amassed a total of 13.5 million players, which is an insane amount of people playing the game. This is especially emphasized when you take into consideration of what state the title was in when it released, and how much the development team has done in their attempts to fix it. This is also exemplified on the title’s Steam page, which shows a large amount of recent reviews as “Mostly Positive.”
As we already mentioned, this is a far cry from the Fallout 76 that we first saw in late 2018, and the video game community took notice. While it might not be the massively successful endeavor that Bethesda first presented it as, it’s definately something that the company can hang their hats on, as they’ve inexplicably turned it into a fun and fulfilling adventure. As for the remaining numbers, they’re all attributed to missions, side quests, experience, specific monsters killed, how many times players used an actual nuke, and other miscellaneous aspects.
