In case those who forgot that this was happening, Bethesda is still working on the next gen upgrade for Fallout 4. The studio previously stated that this would come sometime in 2023, however with less than 18 days remaining within the year, the likelihood of this actually happening is not high. Bethesda confirmed this, as they revealed that the upgrades have officially been delayed until sometime in 2024.
As you can see in the post above, the studio states that they need a “bit more time” before returning to the Commonwealth that was the world of Fallout 4. As we already mentioned, Bethesda mentioned that they were bringing back the title for the current generation of hardware in October 2022, a little more than a year ago. These updates will make the title optimized for both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X/Series S, and included performance mode with high frame rates, support for 4K resolution, and several bug fixes to ensure that the title will run well on both systems.
This announcement also comes not too long after the studio, along with Amazon, revealed the live action television show adaptation for the franchise. It’s entirely possible that the upgrades will coincide with the eventual release of the show, but only time will tell if that comes to pass. Fallout 4 originally launched in November 2015 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game was well received and went onto be critically acclaimed, being nominated for three awards at The Game Awards 2015 in the process. Of course this is a Bethesda title, as it came ripe with plenty of bugs and issues that were subsequentially patched by Bethesda along its entire lifetime. The title also received two expansions, Far Harbor and Nuka World, both of which were also generally well received.
