Facebook’s gaming division, also known as the Oculus family, has announced that they have acquired yet another video game studio. This time its one that we’re all very familiar with, Ready at Dawn, who is mostly known for creating God of War: Chains of Olympus and God of War: Ghost of Sparta for Sony’s first handheld system, the PSP. They’re also known for developing the famous, or infamous PlayStation 4 exclusive The Order: 1886, as well as the Nintendo Wii port of Capcom’s Okami.
Ready at Dawn themselves have recently been developing VR games specifically for the Oculus Rift such as the popular Lone Echo, Echo Arena, and the upcoming Lone Echo II. Therefore, it makes sense for Facebook to bring them indirectly and simply make them a proprietary developer for any and all future VR IP’s on the Oculus Rift. Ready at Dawn joins the ever-growing list of developers that Facebook has obtained, including Beat Games, the makers of the extremely popular Beat Saber, and Sanzaru Games, the creators of Asgard’s Wrath.
As we mentioned earlier, Ready at Dawn is currently developing their next VR title, Lone Echo II. Despite being delayed due to the worldwide effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the game is still scheduled for an eventual 2020 release. While it didn’t have a specific date beforehand, it’s possible that this delay will push it more towards the holidays for a proper release. Thankfully, Facebook is bringing the entire team on board with the acquisition, including everyone at the Irvine and Oregon offices, making a potential 2020 launch time frame much more feasible.
