The process of exploring the depths of dangerous and mysterious dungeons has inspired countless games over the years. Expedition: Into Darkness takes this concept and combines it with the popular extraction-shooter genre, which itself is an evolution on many of the themes from classic dungeon-crawling games. Bringing a medieval theme to the classic formula, the game had previously cultivated fans through its early access stage. Now, a new trailer has announced the release of the first demo for Expedition: Into Darkness.
The trailer establishes the grim tone of the expedition quickly through a voice stating that none of the warrior venturing in are there by choice. After that, many of the battlefields available in the demo are shown off, including classic dungeons deep underground, a foggy area with tentacles rising up on the attack, and exterior castle walls. The dungeons themselves will sport a variety of monsters that promise to challenge players in unique ways. Skeletons are shown swarming a group an enclosed area, and a giant uses its club to sweep area multiple people at once.
Later on, it is revealed that players will be able to do jobs related to the dungeons for rewards. Along the way, they can run into treasure that they can use on equipment and base building. The Steam page warns against carelessness while carrying loot from a dungeon, since death means losing all of it. Expedition: Into Darkness will also feature customization in the form of a skill tree and weapons assembled from multiple components. There will also include a means of getting more power through forbidden means, though it comes with a warning.
The various improvements made to Expedition: Into Darkness since its initial release are all expressed in the new demo release. Players can play it now or wait until the game’s official release on PC.
