Executive Director of XDefiant Says Game Is Not Being Shut Down

A lot of news and speculation has surrounded in recent months. From a timultuous relationship with investors, a push for layoffs from investors, struggling titles, and the delay of one of their most anticipated franchise’s newest, and extremely controversial installment. One topic many have been discussing is the poor performance of Ubisoft’s XDefiant and potential for the game to be shut down, despite only being released in May of this year. Now an executive producer of XDefiant, Mark Rubin, is claiming the opposite, stating on his X account that the team is actually in the process of planning year two for the game.

A leaker by the name of Shaun Weber claims to have spoken to multiple sources connected to the game, stating, “Ubisoft research team is actively asking their tester to have another in-house test session and give/repeat their feedback. Multiple sources said that it’s possible that the game will end its support after Season 4 if they can’t get enough players.”

Rubin admits the player numbers are low, but attributes that to a lack of marketing in order to give their dev team more time to get the game in better place than its current state. XDefiant saw an initial unique player count hit over 1 million within its first two and a half hours of being released and hit 8 million by the end of its first week. Reports from claim that the game is now struggling to hit 20,000 players since then, but Rubin claims that the team is looking to load the game with content for both seasons 3 and 4.
