Evil Genius 2 Currently In Development

Rebellion, creator of the Sniper Elite series, has recently confirmed that they are currently working on Evil Genius 2. The sequel to the 2004 PC title will also be focused on the PC platform. Development on the project began this past spring and is still in early stages. A release window has also not yet been announced. The original Evil Genius is a real time strategy game where players take control of a super villain with goals of world domination. The game was influenced by the James Bond series and is currently playable on today’s hardware. Evil Genius 2 will be the first real time strategy game that will be built on the developer’s in house engine Asura. Fans were first teased about the upcoming sequel in an open letter back in 2013.

Rebellion posted on Twitter earlier today “Ever since Evil Genius came under the Rebellion roof, we’ve always believed that Elixir’s beloved real-time, lair-management and world-domination simulation deserved a follow-up.” They also expressed that the title will not be a remaster in any way and that the game will not be free-to-play. The most recent entry in the franchise is Evil Genius Online which is a free-to-play title that was made in partnership with Zynga.

Rebellion also stated that they almost turned the newly announced game into a crowdfunded campaign but due their other IP selling well this turned out not to be the case.”Secondly, we decided crowd-funding wasn’t the way we wanted to go. After the growing success of the Sniper Elite series and other Rebellion games IP, we started to feel it wasn’t fair to ask fans to fund a new game if we didn’t need them to! With some big projects now out the door and being enjoyed by gamers worldwide, we feel like now is the time to return to the world of Evil Genius.”
