Based off of the hit horror franchise, Evil Dead: The Game was announced at The Game Awards back in December 2020. Developed by Saber Interactive and published by Boss Team Games, Evil Dead: The Game was set to release in 2021 with the groovy Ash Williams being voiced by his original actor, Bruce Campbell, alongside other iconic characters and actors from the franchise, including Cheryl Williams (Ellen Sandweiss) and Scotty (Hal Delrich). The game has characters fight the forces of evil unleashed from the Necronomicon: Ex-Mortis.
With the exception of the single-player mode, gamers have the option to play as either a survivor powering against the undead with three teammates, or playing the evil itself. Despite the 2021 launch date, the game would have some issues with making this deadline, being postponed twice before ultimately being released on May 13, 2022, on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S with a Nintendo Switch version promised in the near future. Unfortunately, the Nintendo Switch edition will not come to fruition. Only 16 months after its release, the official Twitter/X account for the game posted a statement regarding future content.
“To the Evil Dead: The Game Community,” the post reads, “Today, we have made the decision to not pursue the development of new content in Evil Dead: The Game. We also confirm that we will not be releasing a Nintendo Switch version of the game.”
Luckily, Saber Interactive confirmed they will be keeping an eye on things, as well as that the servers will stay up for the foreseeable future, which is more than fellow 4v1 asymmetrical horror game Friday the 13th can say following their announcement the game will be delisted on December 31, 2023, with servers shutting down exactly a year later.
For now, Evil Dead: The Game will still be able to be purchased alongside its multiple DLC.
