It has been 21 years since the release of the final entry of Crystal Dynamics’ narrative masterpiece, Legacy of Kain in Legacy of Kain: Defiance. The absence of the series, beloved for its atmosphere, setting and dialogue, is now old enough to legally drink alcohol in the United States. Known by many names: Blood Omen, Legacy of Kain, Soul Reaver, the series was a high memory in the minds of young gamers who played it, and the series is often at the top of lists of games that players miss from their childhood, but it looks like this series won’t be lost to the wheel of time, as discovered by a poster on Resetera it seems that the Legacy of Kain showed signs of life (unlife?) at the San Diego Comic Con.
This impending announcement may be delayed to accompany the release of the upcoming Legacy of Kain comic, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver – The Dead Shall Rise.

It is very important to note that the displays at Comic Con distinctly say “Remaster” and not “Remake”. Among the Legacy of Kain diehards a remake is actually a slight fear, as the dialogue is timeless and several of the amazing voice actors from the games such as Michael Bell and Simon Templeman possibly being too old to reprise their iconic roles as Raziel and Kain respectively, not to mention the passing of legendary voice actor Tony Jay soon after the release of Defiance.
But a remaster is a good deal for fans old and new, improved audio and visual quality and maybe a few gameplay tweaks will go a long way in preserving the legacy of Kain and Raziel moving forward by putting them on modern platforms. And from there we can only wonder, but this, at least, is good news in the gaming world and one that has been a long time coming.
