European Fire Emblem fans have a confirmed release date and limited edition package to look forward to when fall rolls around.
The announcements come from Nintendo of Europe’s Gamescom lineup. Fire Emblem‘s spin on the Dynasty Warriors formula releases for the Nintendo Switch and 3DS family on Oct. 20.
The title is Fire Emblem‘s first game that strays from its traditional RPG gameplay in favor of a hack and slash system and is the second Nintendo series to get this treatment, following 2014’s Hyrule Warriors.
New characters were revealed in a trailer, focusing on recent series additions Ryoma, Hinoka and Takumi from Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright, and Xander, Leo and Camilla from Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest.
Corrin, the main character from the Fates games, along with Robin, Lucina, Lissa, Chrom and Frederick from Fire Emblem Awakening and Marth from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light can also be seen. Rowan and Lianna, Fire Emblem Warriors‘ original characters, close out the trailer, which can be viewed below.

Staying true to the strategic RPG’s roots, Warriors features the series’ weapon and magic triangles. In these attack systems, swords beat axes, axes overpower lances and lances conquer swords while fire spells rule over wind, wind gives way to thunder and thunder wins over fire.
Mastering these triangles remains as important to the core titles as does in series’ upcoming Switch and 3DS outings.
A release date for the North American version has yet to be announced, as the game’s page on Nintendo’s website lists a generic fall 2017 placeholder. The Japanese version, on the other hand, releases on Sept. 28.
