This year there are many VR titles on the E3 show floor this year. Even without Sony showing up to the big convention there was no shortage of upcoming VR titles to try out. One title that actually won a best of show award was Tripwires very own Espire 1.
The game is a VR shooter that implements stealth elements to it. While playing it one of the concerns going in was motion sickness that sometimes happens to some players after experiencing a VR game. However, the developers have implements a grid system that helps with deter motion sickness and makes players feel more grounded instead of dizzy.
During our time with the game we were place as a robot within a big building where we had to quickly choose a weapon and work our way through treacherous halls full of heavily armed enemies. Traversing through the environment involves crouching, climbing, taking cover, and peeking behind walls. In regards to weapons players can holster 2 weapons as well as dual wield.
Weapons can also have attachments such as sights, red beams, and silencers. Ingenuity and resourcefulness will also play a part within the game as players will be able to pick up items to throw and distract and deal damage to guards, as well as yell to distract them or render them helpless if you catch them from behind. There will also be an array of gadgets for players to use within their battles.
Although it took some time to get used to picking things up and being able to use the weapons effectively it was quite an immersive experience putting us in the shoes of a stealthy assassin. And thankfully there was no motion sickness felt after my experience with the game. Espire 1 does not yet have a set release date.
