Endless Shadow Wars and a New Expansion Coming to Middle-Earth: Shadow of War

In a recent livestream, developer Monolith has revealed that Middle-Earth: Shadow of War will be getting a free downloadable mode which stretches out its endgame indefinitely. The new game mode will come as a part of the game’s first expansion, The Slaughter Tribe.

Spoiler alert for those who haven’t played yet: Shadow Wars is the endgame sequence in which orcs of Mordor attack the fortresses players have taken over the course of the game. Enemy tribes attempt to wipe out each of the player’s fortresses one at a time, and if they succeed, players must work to retake their territory. Once all of the invaders are repelled, the game is won. Due to the popularity of this sequence, however, Monolith is going to let players enjoy an endless siege of their amassed fortresses with the upcoming DLC.

Although the Infinite Shadow War mode is going to be free for everyone, the Slaughter Tribe expansion is not. Slaughter Tribe is part of Shadow of War‘s $40 Season Pass, which includes a total of four individual pieces of DLC. The Season Pass also gets players the Outlaw Tribe Nemesis expansion, The Blade of Galadriel expansion, and The Desolation of Mordor story expansion, all of which are coming later down the road.

Currently, there isn’t a release date for the Infinite Shadow Wars and Slaughter Tribe DLC; Monolith’s livestream says only that the infinite mode should be “coming very quickly.” You can watch the livestream announcement below:

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War was released on October 10th for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
