The currently in development 2D Platformer Enchanted Portals is getting a Kickstarter campaign on October 24, and in preparation for that, the company behind the Indie game released a new Kickstarter campaign trailer. However, the trailer has sparked some controversy over the alleged similarities between Enchanted Portals and Cuphead. In an interview with Polygon the artist of Xixo Game Studios, Gemma had this to say, “Yes, of course Cuphead was a huge inspiration for Enchanted Portals.” They would continue with, “We’re both avid fans and we wanted to make something similar, but always from a place of respect and admiration for the original.” Gemma states that while Xixo Game Studios sought to create a similar game experience, they do not seek to steal Cuphead in any way.
The tweet showing off the trailer has already garnered quite a few comments with fans of Cuphead commenting on how Enchanted Portals seems similar to Cuphead. Enchanted Portals follows two novice magicians that have become lost in time and space. It is up to the player to find the pages of their tome and return home. The trailer shows off the two protagonists traversing a number of levels including a level submerged in water, and a world straight out of science fiction.

The game has also garnered some positive comments as well with Gemma noting that, “a lot of people have also reached out to us to say they adore the game and they would love to see it succeed,”. So while the game trailer has garnered some negative reviews, it also has its fair share of fans who want to see the Indie game blossom. It is currently unknown which consoles Enchanted Portals will be available on. There is also no known release date either, however, the game will have a Kickstarter campaign starting on October 24.
