Things aren’t looking good for Bethesda as its upcoming open world first-person shooter’s release date draws closer. According to Forbes, thanks to Microsoft’s ongoing Activision Blizzard acquisition battle, Redfall was Microsoft’s biggest test to see if its acquired studios could generate high quality AAA exclusives.
It’s review embargo had been set an hour before its May 2 release date. Apparently, confusion on when the embargo was set to release resulted in a YouTuber accidentally posting his review of the game early, with many other reviewers following after him.
Most of these early reviews were either moderately or extremely negative of the game, with many reviewers alleging that Redfall was barley playable at even at 30 fps. Unsurprisingly, Bethesda was less than pleased. Bethesda quickly went on the offensive on a fully copyright take down for anything and everything related to Redfall, and it worked a bit too well. First spotted by Twitter user PMS Jordan, Bethesda accidentally hit the official Redfall account on its take down spree for a short time before it was eventually fixed. But despite Bethesda’s best efforts, the damage was done.
Redfall’s short review embargo was already a sign of concern for many fans, but since the release of these low review scores, many within the community see Redfall as the latest trend in buggy AAA title releases.
