A large presence will be missing at this year’s E3 as Electronic Arts have announced today they’ll be giving up their massive reserved booth space which usually met greeters at the entrance of the Los Angeles Convention Center South Hall. Instead, the company will be hosting their own separate offsite event ‘EA Play‘.
EA Play will take place at Club Nokia, running adjacent to the E3 activities happening nearby at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The event will last 3 days starting June 12 to June 14. A one day sister event in London will be happening at The Mermaid on June 12th.
EA’s annual press conference will still be happening but instead of it’s usual Monday time slot it will take place during opening day of EA Play on June 12th at 1pm Pacific/4pm Eastern. Key titles set to launch in 2016 such as Mass Effect: Andromeda and Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst figure to come into play at this press conference. After the event those in attendance are promised to experience hand-on game demos, live events, competition, special guest appearances, exclusive memorabilia and more.
Those unable to attend the event live will be able to livestream the entire event for free online and will feature exclusive behind-the-scenes content and special online-only prizes.
The event will be open to public but on a limited basis. Tickets will need to be reserved. EA will release more information leading up to the event on their website and mailing list.
Electronic Arts commented to Polygon that they will still take private meetings at E3 in lieu of their large booth space. E3 runs from June 14-June 16.
