Elderly Gamers Completely Unfazed by Five Nights at Freddy’s

The Five Nights at Freddy’s series has become a sort of indie horror gaming phenomenon, with a rabid fanbase of millions, many of whom regard it as the most terrifying game series ever made.

Don’t bother telling that to the elderly, however. A recently uploaded YouTube video by REACT, a gaming channel dedicated to capturing the reactions of gamers of all demographics as they play select titles, shows a group of older gamers reacting to Five Nights with what can best be described as complete indifference.

The gamers, all of them well into their 60s, are put through the unspeakable ordeal of managing the night shift at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Anyone who has played any of the Five Nights games knows what this entails: the absolute terror of having to fend off a horde of murderous animatronics, with some of the most heart-attack inducing jump scares known to man awaiting those who fail.

The elderly gamers in REACT’s videos, however, seem to have seen much, much more horrific things throughout their lives, as they all go through Five Nights while making comments like “Ooh! He looks like a teddy bear!”, “Oh, I’m dead, huh?” and “Ugly face came…and look at me.” Many of them show little to no reaction when being subjected to both games’ jump scares.

When questioned on whether the game scared them, nearly all the participants responded with a resounding “No.” Curiously, many of them liked the first Five Nights over the second.

Both videos have proven to be immensely popular, having racked up over half a million views each within a day of being uploaded.

At any rate, the more easily scared Five Nights fans have a third game to look forward to, Five Nights at Freddy’s 3, which is due sometime this year. Developer Scott Cawthorne recently uploaded a teaser trailer, which you can view below.

Kerwin Tsang: Kerwin has been a gamer for almost as long as he's been alive, ever since he received a Sega Mega Drive in 1989. Having graduated to the upper echelons of PC gaming, he now boasts a number of major gaming accomplishments. These include getting through all three Deus Ex games without killing anyone, clocking in over 700 hours of gameplay time in Skyrim without ever finishing the main story, and nearly shattering every bone in his hand from punching the wall when his soldiers in XCOM missed a shot with 95% chance to hit.
