It appears that the divisive Nintendo Wii classic, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, may be coming to the Nintendo Switch in the near future. First reported by Eurogamer, longtime series producer Eiji Aonuma appeared on stage at musical concert themed around the beloved franchise to tease the possibility. According to a post on the Chinese social media site Weibo, Aonuma addressed the crowd saying, “I know what you are thinking, Skyward Sword for Switch, right?” Though it was reported fans responded with enthusiasm and applause, Aonuma would leave the stage without saying anything else.
However, since then, neither Aonuma himself nor Nintendo have made any announcement or confirmation pertaining to the teased port’s possibility. It would make sense, however, for Skyward Sword to be brought to the modern hybrid console. Aside from Skyward Sword, Nintendo has had new, updated versions of most of the other mainline 3D The Legend of Zelda games, including the Nintendo 64 games Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask appearing on Nintendo 3DS, and HD versions of the GameCube’s Wind Waker and Twilight Princess appearing on Wii U.
Fans of The Legend of Zelda franchise seem to have a lot to look forward to. Eurogamer also reports that Nintendo wants to release a game in the franchise on the Switch every year. Thus, it would appear even more likely that fans could see Skyward Sword in the future. It is also known that the company could possibly be working on a new project pertaining to the franchise thanks to a pair of job listings. This could be the Skyward Sword port or something completely new. Along with this, the long rumored Nintendo 3DS remake of the series’ 1993 Game Boy entry The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening could still be in the works. There may also be mobile game entry in the franchise currently under development.
