Ed Boon Reveals Details of Takeda Patch for Mortal Kombat 1; More Details on Year 2 to Come at SDCC

Netherrealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat 1 released late last year to some great reception, though it seems like overall the hype around the game has died down somewhat. Every DLC since its release has given the game spurts of live, however, so it’s no surprise that there is a Year 2 to follow up the conclusion of Mortal Kombat 1’s Year 1 DLC with the release of Takeda Takahashi as the final Year 1 DLC character. We’ll be seeing more details as to what’s going to go down in Year 2 at this year’s San Diego Comic Con at the end of this month.

To tide us over until then, Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon has gone to Twitter to give us a small sneak preview of Takeda:

As well as a robust thread of just some of the changes we can expect come the balance patch that will be accompanying Takeda:

Notable on the list of changes is the addition of more ambush moves to some of the kameos in the game, some kameos like Frost and Goro, are relatively well liked fan favorite characters that just don’t see use as kameos due to not having enough utility as assists. Beyond that, Ed also mentions that some of the actual roster fighters will be seeing some love come the Takeda patch.

It’s good to see some characters get buffed, Shang Tsung and Sub Zero especially are huge favorites of the community that just never see play due to being extremely underpowered, though Ed has avoided talking of nerfs to the upper echelon of MK1’s tier list, that may be for the better as the power level of Mortal Kombat 1 isn’t all that high.

As for the San Diego Comic Con reveal, when Mortal Kombat 1 was first released we discovered who the DLC characters for the first year would be relatively fast, so I expect that the reveal for the SDCC will outright tell us who is going to be in the Year 2 DLC, and if not you can probably expect that news soon.

I love video games and video game culture, as far back as I can remember I've not only played them, I've actively participated in their communities. I hope my history in this hobby and my enthusiasm for writing helps me convey news to you accurately and succinctly.
