Ed Boon is Open to the Idea of a Horror Movie Fighting Game

Over the past few years, horror movie icons have been appearing as DLC fighters in the latest Mortal Kombat games.  In Mortal Kombat X, we’ve gotten Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Jason Vorhees from Friday the 13th, The Xenomorph from Alien, and the Predator from Predator.  With all these different characters, people have been wondering if NetherRealm studios would ever make a horror movie fighting game.

In an interview with GameInformer, Mortal Kombat X director Ed Boon said that he is open to the idea of a horror cross-over fighting game.  “You know, as we’ve been accumulating them [DLC fighters], that idea has been coming up more and more frequently…a few people have brought it up like ‘why don’t you do a horror movie fighting game?’  Maybe one day we will.”  This should be taken with a grain of salt, but Boon did not completely deny the possibility.

Boon also explained in the interview how the team decide which DLC characters make it to the game.  Boon stated “there are a number of variables, including what the players have been asking for.  We’re always listening to feedback.”  Boon also mentioned that a character’s availability is a big factor.  “Obviously we can’t just choose what we want to do, like ‘we want Robocop so he’s in the game!'”

Although it’s not certain, just thinking of the kind of characters that could be in a horror fighting game is exciting.  All I want is the Leprechaun from Leprechaun as a fighter and Godzilla as the final boss, is that too much to ask?
