Eastward Is An Upcoming Adventure About Surviving In An Underpopulated World

Eastward is an upcoming adventure game paired with role-playing elements that’s going to be arriving on PC. Indie developer Pixpil has teamed up with Chucklefish Games, who are known for Starbound and Wargroove, to bring this tale about civilization to fruition.

Set in a detailed decaying landscape, Eastward takes place in a society that is beginning to collapse as the human population shrinks down to an all-time low. You’ll discover that various usual facets of civilization have begun to crumble and that the manpower once available to maintain equilibrium is a promise of the past. You adopt the role of a diligent and hardworking digger named John, who begins to guide a mysterious women named Sam through the decaying city streets. What is left of the industrial world is now inhabited by strange monsters and even stranger people. Taking inspiration from 90s Japanese animation styles, Eastward offers artistic nods that bring forth a combination of modern and retro-pixel artwork. Utilizing a 3D lighting system, the game looks both contemporary and old-school and has aspects of both the old and new worlds being analyzed.

Eastward will be a contained, single-player experience with dual character adventure role-playing elements. The gameplay will consist of puzzle-solving and dungeon crawler modes. Sam and John will venture on a joint adventure through a world falling to shreds through an emotional story-mode. Through this journey, you’ll encounter numerous quirky characters and come face to face with strange monsters that you’ll often have to thoroughly examine before approaching. You’ll need to protect Sam as this doubles as an escort mission, but she’ll often do her best at aiding you in combat and participating in puzzles. Joel Corelitz is composing the soundtrack which is big news considering his previous work on Hohokum and Gorogoa.

While there’s no release date yet, Eastward will be arrive on Windows and Mac OS X sometime soon. Be sure to check out the trailer below if this seems interesting.
