Star wars: Battlefront II is just a few days away from release, and after watching gameplay videos of multiplayer action, exciting story trailers, and battle scenes, fans are looking forward to getting their hands on the game for themselves. However, one feature of the game that fans certainly aren’t looking forward to is the fact that some of their favorite characters, such as Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, will not be initially playable. Not only that, fans are also outraged at the amount of time it will take to unlock these characters.
In order to unlock Darth Vader alone, players will have to fork over 60,000 credits, which will take up to 40 hours to obtain according to some Redditor’s calculations. This could seem like an alarming amount of time to put into the game just for one character, but PC Gamer points out that the “calculations purely take into account credits earned during matches, not credits earned by completing challenges early in the game.” With the only alternative being to spend real physical currency which will not be directly converted into credits. In response to a Reddit thread complaining about this dilemma EA chose to give their piece on the issue.
“The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes. As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we’re looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we’ll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay. We appreciate the candid feedback, and the passion the community has put forth around the current topics here on Reddit, our forums and across numerous social media outlets. Our team will continue to make changes and monitor community feedback and update everyone as soon and as often as we can.”
However, this comment in turn didn’t sit so well with the community as it has now acquired over 400,000 downvotes which is over 10 times more than the previously most downvoted comment, and is officially the most disliked comment on Reddit of all time. In the midst of the outrage Redditiors were urging others to cancel their preorders for the game. In response to their historically bad comment, EA posted that “we’re reducing the amount of credits needed to unlock the top heroes by 75%.”
