Earlier today, Electronic Arts (EA) revealed the newest addition to its Battlefield team: Ridgeline Games, recently established game studio. According to the press release, Ridgeline Games is led by Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto alongside a worldwide team of industry veterans. Ridgeline Games’ goal is to build a studio inclusive to all identities and where fostering a “strong work-life balance” in its workers is a top priority. Now that the game studio is working with EA, it has been tasked with “developing a narrative campaign set in the Battlefield universe.”
“It is a great honor to have the opportunity to collaborate with DICE and Ripple Effect and lead the charge on expanding the narrative, storytelling, and character development opportunities in the Battlefield series,” said Lehto.
With many long-lasting game franchises currently looking into the future development of their respective series, it seems that Battlefield is off to a decent start. Battlefield, for how beloved its game-plays to fans, was not exempt from some less than stellar solo campaigns. The inclusion of Ridgeline Games for Battlefield’s future narrative campaigns brings with it the optimism that future campaigns have the potential to be more fun and engaging. Certainly, with the creative mind of Mark Lehto and his team, future Battlefield games will only grow with their fresh perspective. Vince Zampella, Respawn founder and head of the Battlefield franchise voiced his excitement Ridgeline’s inclusion.
“We’re continuing to invest in the future of the franchise by bringing in new talent and perspectives,” said Zampella. “With Marcus and his team at Ridgeline Games joining the world-class global team we have already in place, Battlefield is in the strongest position to succeed.”
