If you are a soccer and/or a video game fan in India, you may have gotten extremely lucky with the upcoming FIFA 23. EA’s last official FIFA release was mistakenly offered at an incorrect price on the Epic Games Store. This error in pricing was made for the Ultimate Edition of the game which was discounted at an astounding 99.98%. According to an email sent from EA, they plan to honor all pre-purchases made at that price.
“A few weeks back, we scored a pretty spectacular own-goal when we inadvertently offered FIFA 23 pre-purchase on the Epic Games Store at an incorrect price,” EA wrote in the letter. “It was our mistake, and we wanted to let you know that we’ll be honoring all pre-purchases made at that price.” An EA Sports representative confirmed to PC Gamer that the message is accurate.
The Standard Edition of FIFA 23 is 3,499 Indian rupees (INR). This comes to about $44.17. This would be a discount of 99.86%. The Ultimate Edition of the game costs 4,799 INR which brings the discount to 99.98%. The price has gone up in India between FIFA 22 and FIFA 23. The Standard Edition went from 2,999 to 3,499 INR. The Ultimate Edition went from 4,299 to 4,799. EA has not said how many people purchased FIFA 23 at the discounted price.
FIFA 23 is the last game that will use the FIFA name brand. After 30 years, EA announced that moving forward, starting in July 2023, its soccer title will be known as EA Sports FC. The game will sport the same experiences, modes, leagues, tournaments, clubs, and athletes such as Ultimate Team, Career Mode, Pro Clubs, and VOLTA.
FIFA said that they continue to work on soccer games following their split with EA. Gianni Infantino, FIFA President said: “I can assure you that the only authentic, real game that has the FIFA name will be the best one available for gamers and football fans. The FIFA name is the only global, original title. FIFA 23, FIFA 24, FIFA 25 and FIFA 26, and so on – the constant is the FIFA name and it will remain forever and remain THE BEST. The interactive gaming and esports sector is on a path of unrivalled growth and diversification. FIFA’s strategy is to ensure we can make the most of all future options and ensure a wide range of products and opportunities for gamers, fans, member associations and partners.”
