Today, EA has announced that their subscription service, EA Access will be making its way to the PlayStation 4 starting in July. There are two options if you choose to sign up. A monthly subscription costs $4.99 and an annual subscription costs $29.99.
Matt Bilbey, Executive VP of Strategic Growth had this to say about the announcement: “As we continue to invest in digital and subscription services, bringing great games to even more players across more platforms is an exciting opportunity for everyone, our goal is to give players more choice to try and play our games wherever and however they choose, and we’re happy to bring EA Access to PlayStation 4”.
For those who don’t know, EA Access is a video gaming subscription that lets you play EA’s best games as much as you want. It’s similar to Xbox Game Pass but as the name says, it is limited to EA’s lineup.
EA Access’s gaming lineup includes Anthem, Apex Legends, Battlefield V, FIFA 19, NHL 19, NBA Live 19, Madden 19, Unravel Two, A Way Out, Burnout Paradise Remastered, Fe, The Sims 4, Mass Effect Andromeda, Titanfall 2, and more.
EA Access does come with some benefits. Members of EA Access get a 10% discount on full game purchases, expansions, in-game items and more.
One of the big reasons to get a subscription is the option to try a game out before you buy it with Play First Trials. It allows up to 10 hours of most new EA games and progress made during that time can transfer over if you decide to buy the game.
EA Access has been available on Xbox since 2014. Before this news today, Sony made a statement as to why the service wasn’t available during that time. A Sony representative said: “We evaluated the EA Access subscription offering and decided that it does not bring the kind of value PlayStation customers have come to expect, PlayStation Plus memberships are up more than 200% since the launch of PlayStation 4, which shows that gamers are looking for memberships that offer a multitude of services, across various devices, for one low price. We don’t think asking our fans to pay an additional $5 a month for this EA-specific program represents good value to the PlayStation gamer.”
That sentiment seems to have changed which is good news for anyone looking to try out EA Access as it is available on multiple platforms and is no longer limited as it once was.
