Today, the Game Critics Awards has announced the winners of the “Best of E3” Awards. These awards recognize the games that will shape the future of interactive entertainment, as demonstrated via hands-on playable form at E3. The nominees were announced on Tuesday and are comprised of 48 games. Here are the winners:
Final Fantasy VII Remake won Best of Show. The game was finally revealed once again during the recent State of Play. Gameplay was shown during Square Enix’s press conference. Final Fantasy VII Remake also won Best Console Game and Best RPG. Best Original Game went to The Outer Worlds, the new title from the creators of the original Fallout. If you liked Fallout: New Vegas, chances are you’ll like this one as well. Best VR/AR game went to Phantom: Covert Ops. Doom Eternal won best PC and Best Action game. The best Hardware/Peripheral went to the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 which was shown off during the Xbox Briefing. Watch Dogs: Legion won Best Action/Adventure game. The game was leaked prior to the official reveal and shared the news that every NPC will be playable. Best Racing Game was won by Crash Team Racing. Best Sports Game goes to EFootball Pro Evolution Soccer 2020. John Wick: Hex won best Strategy Game. Luigi’s Mansion 3 took Best Family/Social Game. Best Online Multiplayer went to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare which was revealed before E3. 12 Minutes won Best Independent Game. Best Ongoing Game went to Destiny 2, which will be getting number of changes once their new expansion releases this fall.
64 global media and influencer outlets voted on the winners. These include ArsTechnica, Easy Allies, Electric Playground, Entertainment Weekly, Forbes, Game Informer, Gamespot, Kinda Funny, IGN, and more from North America. International outlets were comprised of Cultura Geek, Maditos Nerds, AusGamers, Press Start, Omelete/The Enemy, VG 24/7, GamePro, EDGE, Eurogamer, and more.
In order for games to be eligible for nomination, games must have been hands-on playable for at least 5 minutes of gameplay at E3 2019; so certain games. who were at E3 were ineligible. All of these games were still eligible for Special Commendations. The Special Commendation for Graphics went to Cyberpunk 2077.
