Though the game is not a Playstation exclusive, Sony showed off some gameplay footage for Ubisoft’s upcoming action/stealth game Watch Dogs at their conference. The highly anticipated game casts players as hacker Aiden Pierce, who uses his advanced technological knowledge to carry out vigilante justice. The game certainly feels like the spiritual inverse of Splinter Cell— with Aiden Pierce being a 99%-er Sam Fisher.
There’s some combat in the game, but most of the time players are using hacking to manipulate their environment and gather information. Aiden can jack security camera feeds, control machines, and cause electrical blackouts (all with a smartphone, no less!) to accomplish his objectives.
Watch Dogs also supposedly features an open world, with each mission having multiple paths and solutions.
Perhaps the most novel part of Watch Dogs is its cooperative play. While one person plays the game on a console or PC, another player can join the game on a tablet. As you can see briefly in the video, the tablet player aids the console player by taking out a helicopter and putting up barriers to stop a police barricade.
Look for Watch Dogs in November on PC, Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U, with Xbox One and PS4 versions releasing later.
