Dune has had an incredible week in our popular culture, with the release of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Part 2 releasing in theaters this past weekend, and today another trailer for the much anticipated survival MMO Dune Awakening released. The trailer showcased some incredible visuals as well as our first look at the extended survival gameplay as players attempt to survive the harsh planet of Arrakis. As confirmed in their first ever Dune Awakening direct earlier today Legendary, the production company behind the motion pictures, has been working with Funcom in a very collaborative manner as much of what we see in the trailer very much resembles the world showcased in the films.
Speaking of Arrakis and the world of Dune, it looks to be perfectly encapsulated in Funcom’s upcoming title. Survival will be the ultimate goal of the game as you evade the planet’s sandworms, enemy factions, and harsh weather. We also saw various forms of combat such as hand to hand, mystical powers, ornithopter aerial combat, and much more. Player crafting will be a huge essential in gameplay as players are expected to build to adapt to said unforgivable sands. We saw players build bases, villages, and kingdoms as once you conquer the desert and its horrors, you then have to worry about political dangers.

There will be a full leveling system, connection to four main types of combat, ranged attacks, melee, abilities, and vehicles. It was mentioned in the Dune Awakening Direct that players will also be able to learn skills from the great houses of the universe, such as learning Bene Gesserit abilities, become a swordmaster, and even become a full on trooper armed with ranged rifles and grappling hooks. There was no announced release date as the developers are taking their time trying to make the game of their dreams. Players should still be very excited as this looks to be one of the biggest games of the year whenever it releases.
