Bandai Namco released a holiday update for their game Duelyst which includes new cosmetic items, game modes and more. The update featuring the Frostfire Festival is part of the December 1.93 Patch and is currently live.
Duelyst is a tactical card game featuring “head-to-head matches last between five and ten minutes, and focus on thoughtful decision-making and strategic positioning.” Players can choose from “over 700 cards across 6 unique Factions” to fight against others online in different game modes. The newest update gives old and new players the opportunity to start over or get rare cards with new starter bundles, and each set contains “2 Epics and 4 Rares with an emote per faction and an exclusive card back not sold outside of these Starter Bundles for 450 Diamonds.” Balance changes to cards Maehv Skinsolder, Saurian Finality, Homeostatic Rebuke, Lavaslasher, Ghost Seraphim, and Deciptibot have also been updated.
In addition to new card packs, the Frostfire Festival update gives players a chance to get their hands on winter themed cosmetic items such as skins for new cards. Some skins feature characters wielding presents as weapons, wearing glowing reindeer horns or wielding light-up Christmas trees on their backs. Skins come in three categories, Festive Faie, Zyx and Zirix and can be obtained by purchasing a special Frostfire Festival Holiday Chest in the Duelyst Store. Players should keep in mind that chests have a chance to give duplicate skins and different items depending on what kind of chest they purchase; a Standard Chest “contains a Spirit Orb, Spirit and one of the six Frostfire Cosmetics,” while a Premium Chest “Contains two Immortal Vanguard Orbs, Spirit and one of the six Frostfire Cosmetics.”
Those who don’t want to purchase Frostfire items can participate in the new Frostfire mode with 15 matches to get a free chest, even if they don’t win. The mode is meant to be a fun, unranked, December-only feature and players must queue up to participate in Frostfire Festival themed quests which includes “running around the battlefield and opening up Frostfire crates to earn some goodies for your General.”
Duelyst’s Frostfire Festival won’t be around forever, so now would be the perfect time to start for those who are interested in playing the game, which is free-to-play and available on PC.
